GREENBURGH CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTION AND BUDGET VOTE RESULTS

Budget
The 2023-2024 GCSD Budget election yesterday May 16th.The 23- 4 School Budget was approved yesterday in a vote of 371 Yes to 141 No votes.Budget Information:
• Proposed tax levy increase of 3.00% (within Tax Cap) and overall 4.67% increase
•​ Total Proposed Budget of $78,032,174
• An anticipated increase of 12.02% in state aid

School Board Election
Incumbent Tracy Mairs and newcomer Erin Jacobson ran unopposed in the May 16th election for the two open seats on GCSD school board. Both Erin Jacobsen (411 Votes) and Tracy C. Mairs (391 Votes) were elected yesterday to the Board of Education.

HNA EVENT TOMORROW MAY 18th

Please mark your calendars and join Eric Zinger and the HNA tomorrow May 18th at 8pm for a moderated discussion with NYState Assembly Representative for the 92nd district MaryJane Shimskey. Assemblywoman Shimskey was elected in November and represents most of Greenburgh, including Hartsdale. Previously she was on the Westchester County Board of Legislators for over 10 years. This is a live event and we will allow time at the end for public Q&A.

NEW LEAF BLOWER ORDINANCE
The Town Board unanimously approved a new leaf blower lawat the Special Town Board Meeting on May 16th. The new ordinance focuses on noise levels in residential neighborhoods and limits the number of leafs blowers that can be used simultaneously.  

FOOD SCRAP PICKUP UPDATE
The Town of Greenburgh Board is considering curbside food scrap pickup program that could include a trial transition to one-day a week garbage collection with the second day substituted for food scrap pickup. The Town Board held a discussion on the topic at The Town Board Work Session on May 16th where the Department of Public Works shared concerns about the proposal citing its impact on services and costs, and indicated more information and studies are needed.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Hartsdale Fire Department’s (HFD) Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade will take place this year on Monday, May 29th at 10AM. The parade will start at the Veterans’ Memorial at DeSanti Plaza in front of the Hartsdale Train Station. HFD will be joined by the Town Veterans Committee, Greenburgh Town leaders, local Scout Troops, and apparatus from Hartsdale, Fairview, and Greenville Fire Departments. The parade route will go down East Hartsdale Ave to the Central Avenue Firehouse (Hartsdale Fire Station #1). After the parade, ice cream will be served at the fire station for all.

HEALING GARDEN AT RIDGE ROAD PARK
Yesterday, May 16th during Mental Health Awareness Month, County Executive George Latimer, led a ceremony to officially welcome the public to the new Healing Garden. The garden was created to build awareness of suicide prevention and create a tranquil space of reflection for family and loved ones of those who ended their lives by suicide. The ceremony was attended by TOG leaders and board members of the local Mental Health Association. 

ODELL HOUSE
On May 20th, you and your family can visit three historic Revolutionary War sites in Westchester, where French troops camped during the Revolutionary War. The sites, Smith’s Tavern in Armonk, Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters in Hartsdale, and Yorktown Grange Fair Grounds will have family activities. GREENBURGH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The first meeting of the Greenburgh Chamber of Commerce will be held tonight, Wednesday May 17 at 6PM to 8PM at the Greenburgh Public Library.  The agenda topics include: an introduction to the Chamber, its mission and officers, how to join and a Greenburgh police department presentation: security and safety measures for local businesses from Community Police Officers Lt. Norman Hall and Patdrol Captain Michael Muesser followed  by Q&A and general discussion. More information and how to register

2023 CAPITOL BUDGET HEARING
There will be a public hearing at the Greenburgh Town Board Meeting on May 24th after 7:30PM on the 2023 Proposed Capitol Budget of $19,907,944.
